Moldova to have new law on official statistics

Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers approved today the draft law on official statistics. The document comes to harmonize national legislation in the field of statistics with acquis communautaire. Also, this bill is in line with commitments under Moldova – European Union Association Agreement.
The new legislation will replace the Law on Official Statistics, adopted in 2004, which is outdated and requires significant changes. At project design, participated some international experts in the field of statistics, within cooperation project between the National Bureau of Statistics and the similar structure in Sweden. The bill was drawn up in accordance with the framework law on statistics from Eurostat developed and proposed for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia.
The law regulates the organization and functioning of official statistics and the legal framework for the development, production, dissemination and coordination of official statistics. The document provides for the establishment associated to the Government the Council for National Statistics, strategic development and promotion of official statistics.
The draft law will be submitted to Parliament for consideration and adoption.
