Moldovan president says Moldova very much wants to be able to rely on Romania

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - We very much want to be able to rely on Romania. Therefore, we want to have partners in Bucharest who are open for a good cooperation with Moldova. President Maia Sandu today conveyed a message to this effect at a news conference.

The head of state stressed that Moldova wanted a European Romania, which consolidates its role in EU.

„Those who think that the European Union is not good for Romania should look at us and see how vulnerable we are and which are the living standards in Moldova. In this way, they should imagine how Romania could have been, if it was not member of the European Union. We want Romania to remain in EU and help also us get there as soon as possible,’’ Maia Sandu said.  

The Moldovan president also said that Moldova enjoyed political support on behalf of most political parties from Romania.

„This is quite valuable for us. So, we do not choose one or another party; it is the choice of the Romanians from beyond the Prut river whom they vote for. We want very much to count on the same extraordinary relation we have had in the last years,’’ Maia Sandu said.   

Romania is one of the principal partners of Moldova. The country represents an essential support in the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union. Also, during years, Romania has financed diverse important projects in Moldova in the fields of culture, education, infrastructure, energy and public sector. Also, the country represents a strong support for Moldova, in the context of the energy crisis.
