Moldovan government declares energy efficiency, renewable energy as national priorities

Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/ - The government has declared the energy efficiency and renewable energy as national priorities. This implies clear-cut commitments on behalf of the authorities to make maximum of efforts on all dimensions to achieve the concerned desiderata. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic made statements to this effect at the launch of an investment workshop titled, Financial Instruments to Support Sustainable Development, organized within the Moldova Eco-Energy Week.   

In the context, according to the Economics Ministry’s press service, the deputy prime minister stressed that the Moldova Eco-Energy Week was one of the efficient instruments of the authorities in the process of promotion and implementing these ideas. “The today’s event represents a platform through which we provide full information to all actors involved in projects on promotion of energy efficiency and sources of renewable energy,” the economics minister said.     

Also, Octavian Calmic noted that, while achieving the goals in the concerned sectors, the central authorities were set to implement priority national projects on energy efficiency in buildings sector (in the latter’s capacity of the biggest wasteful consumer of energy), industrial sector (which must become more competitive) transports (as, given that it has the highest annual rate of increase, it remains with an “untouched” efficiency potential) and the public sector.      

At the workshop, representatives of the national authorities and development partners of Moldova (World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, German Agency for International Cooperation, Orange Company, etc.) unveiled programmes on support of projects in the energy efficiency and renewable energy sector, as well as steps due to be undertaken to get financial sources or qualified consultancy.     

The Moldova Eco-Energy Week, held on 28 November - 2 December, is organized by the Agency for Energy Efficiency, Energy and Biomass Project in Moldova and the Fund for Energy Efficiency at the headquarters of the Moldexpo exhibition centre. The event is aimed at backing the most important initiatives in the production and efficient consumption of energy, implementation, development and promotion of modern technologies, as well as of innovations in the concerned field.
