Moldova to collaborate with European anti-fraud office for fair European funds' management

Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/ – The National Anti-Corruption Center (CAN) was designated as the main contact point for European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) in Moldova, following the decision adopted today by the government, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
As such, CNA will ensure cooperation and info exchange with OLAF on cases of obtaining fraudulent and improper use of foreign assistance funds provided by EU, corruption and other irregularities.
The collaboration provides operational assistance and technical cooperation, realization of joint investigations, cooperation in informing the beneficiaries of European funds on how to prevent fraud. Also, the two institutions will cooperate in staff training on preventing corruption in implementing the financed projects. At the same time, CNA will monitor recovery of funds used contrary to their destination by conducting financial investigations, tracing, identification and recovery of assets derived from crime.
Similarly, creating the main contact point for European Anti-Fraud Office is a measure to strengthen national institutional system and demonstrates Moldova's willingness to protect the national and European Union financial interests.
