EU Commission to support Moldova in energy sector reforms

Chisinau, 8 December /MOLDPRES/ – European Union Commission will support the Moldovan authorities in implementation of reforms in energy sector and Community electricity interconnection system projects. A statement to this effect was made today by the deputy director of the Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission, Christopher Jones, at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmic, Minister of Economy.
The Economy Ministry’s communication and media relations department has reported that referring to the support in interconnection projects process, especially construction of the second phase of gas pipeline Iasi – Ungheni, up to Chisinau, Christopher Jones said that the institution he represented is to examine Moldova’s request on extending the grant component of €10 million for this project.
The European official also appreciated the efforts of national authorities, which managed to achieve most of the objectives undertaken on reforming the energy sector, both at the legislative component, as well as the practical one.
During the talks, Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmic said that government would help to achieve the objectives assumed by Moldova in reforming energy sector, including those ones related to the work of National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), within the limits of its competences.
