Chisinau, 9 December /MOLDPRES/- The decree by President Nicolae Timofti on appointing Eduard Harunjen as Prosecutor General was published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) of Moldova today.
The head of state signed the decree appointing the Prosecutor General on 8 December. Also, Harunjen took the oath before the president and members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
Harunjen was born on 19 May 1972 in Cupcini town, Edinet district. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as prosecutor at the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office. From 1996 to 2005, he served as deputy head of more departments at the Interior Ministry. In 2011-2013, he worked as prosecutor for special missions at the Prosecutor General’s Office, later he served as anticorruption prosecutor and first deputy prosecutor general. Since March he is working as acting Prosecutor General.
Under the new prosecution law, the president appoints the Prosecutor General following a proposal by CSP for a seven-year-mandate.
The prosecutor general can be dismissed by the president following a proposal by CSP, in line with the legislation, for objective reasons and under the transparent procedure.
