OSCE special representative for Transnistrian settlement to visit Moldova

Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/ - On the sidelines of the 23rd meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council, held in Hamburg, Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today had a meeting with Ambassador Wolf Dietrich Heim, who will hold the mandate of special representative for Transnistrian settlement process within Austria’s OSCE Chairmanship, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
The sides reviewed the main developments on the Transnistria-related problems, tackled up-to-date subjects on the agenda of negotiations and exchanged opinions and visions on prospects for advancing the process.
Wolf Dietrich Heim informed that, in the second half of next January, he intended to pay an official visit to Chisinau, to discuss in detail organizations aspects and activities due to be planned during his mandate.
Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan specified that, to give an impetus to the negotiating process and achieve substantial results, he would keep all the present dialogue platforms functional, would actively interact will all relevant partners and would put emphasis on the settlement of the most pressing problems faced by the residents from the two banks of Dniester. Balan stressed that he would direct, as much as possible, efforts to ensure continuity of the works in the five-plus-two format and to identify viable solutions from all the three baskets of the negotiating process’ agenda.
At the meeting, the deputy prime minister offered sincere congratulations to W.D. Heim on his appointment as special representative for Transnistrian settlement process of the Austrian OSCE chairmanship. At the same time, Balan voiced confidence in a future fruitful cooperation, which will bring an essential contribution, able to improve the atmosphere of dialogue and achieve the results expected.
