Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ - The 32nd issue of a scientific symposium titled, „Basarabenii în lume” (Bessarabians all over the World), dedicated to persons born in Moldova, who asserted themselves on the international stage during time, took place at the National Library (BNRM) today.
Attending the event were researchers, writers, newspapermen and librarians.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the BNRM Cultural Programmes Service, one of the event’s organizers Raisa Melnic, has said that the cultural, historical and scientific polyptych „Basarabenii în lume” comprised exhibitions, book launches, concerts, medallions and conferences dedicated to great personalities born in Bessarabia, who asserted themselves beyond the borders of Moldova.
According to Melnic, the goal of the project is to get out of anonymity the unknown personalities of the nation, in order to make them known to the public of Moldova.
For his part, a historical and literary researcher, Iurie Colesnic stressed that these conferences were quite useful for the fact that the eternal problem of the Bessarabians is that they are looking for their identity. “For more than 200 years, we have been seeking the identity and the people born on this land and who asserted themselves in the world prove us that it exists. Time is ripe to show that we have a great intellectual potential at home and worldwide and prove national solidarity,” Colesnic said.
Participants in the event unveiled essays on German scientist Eugen Statnic, writer Paul Goma, fine artists Sneer and Moisei Cogan, actresses Stela Popescu and Svetlana Toma, sculptor Alexey Shchusev, film director Emil Loteanu, singers Lilia Amarfii, Maria Codreanu and Nadejda Cepraga, etc.
