Moldovan government approves strategy of strengthening interethnic relations

Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ – The Government approved in today's meeting: The strategy of interethnic relations consolidation in Moldova for 2017 – 2027. The document aims to integrate national minorities in various spheres of state and ensure equality of citizens, regardless of ethnicity, cultural or linguistic belonging, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

One of Strategy’s objective is to ensure access of national minorities to information and programs in native languages ​​by encouraging persons belonging to other ethnic minorities to establish and administer means of mass communication in native language and for private audiovisual institutions to generate and disseminate content in minority languages.

The strategy also provides that the state shall provide conditions for learning and using the Romanian language by national minorities, promotion of minority languages ​​and ethnic diversity in society, active participation of national minorities in public life of the state and intercultural dialogue facilitation.

As such, strategy implementation will ensure the rights of people belonging to other ethnic groups and help strengthen society through sustainable development of interethnic relations.

The strategy objectives will be implemented gradually, in three stages, while costs being covered from the state budget and funds provided by development partners.

According to statistics, 23.8 per cent of Moldovan population belong to national minorities, examples of which are Ukrainians, Russians, Gagauz, Bulgarian, Roma and other ethnic groups.
