Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - The national programme on cancel control for 2016-2025 will be published in the Official Journal on 16 December. The document is aimed at reducing the death rate caused by cancer and improving the quality of life of the patients diagnosed with this disease.    

The authorities are set to enhance the quality of medical services provided to residents and improve the conditions of work of medical institutions, including by implementing new technologies. At the same time, the government is to carry out a string of measures in terms of social mobilization in cancer control and continuous monitoring the of the public health sector.  

Among the goals set in the programme approved, there is a ten-per cent reduction in the types of cancer till 2025, as well as a 25-per cent increase in the rate of early detection of patients ill with this disease. At the same time, patients’ access to quality services of diagnosis, treatment and care is to be enhanced, including through ensuring the work of treatment services in all administrative and territorial units.   

The implementation of the national programme on cancer control is to take place in two periods. In the first stage, 2016-2020, actions of strengthening capacities of the health system will be carried out, including endowment of health institutions with medical devices and providing qualified staff. Subsequently, depending of the results achieved, an action plan will be worked out for the next period.  

In Moldova, cancer is on the second position among the main reasons of residents’ death and the number of persons suffering from this disease is on the rise.
