Moldovan police marks 26th anniversary of creation

Chisinau, 17 December/MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip today participated in a forum "Police in the service of society", dedicated to the 26th anniversary of police, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.

The premier said the police role was essential for ensuring security of citizens and for fight against corruption, and the country's future would be better if the professionalism and fairness of public employees are boosted. In the context, Filip also referred to the importance of professional training of police.

"Dear policemen, I have great respect for the fact that you are in the vanguard of the war against lawlessness. I want you to know that government is aware of the role and mission of National Police and we will do our best for modernizing it. We will make the police a modern institution able to react proactively to the needs of citizens," he said.

At the same time, the premier said that all measures for modernising the National Police would not be possible without support of development partners. "Due to the support provided by the states from EU and USA, police managed to enhance operational capacity and is currently more active in investigating cases on cross-border crime. I wish you many achievements in your work, don't forget we are a solid team meant to modernise Moldova," he said.

The National Police has about 10,000 employees, and two National Inspectorate, 54 territorial police stations and other specialised subdivisions.
