Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/- President Nicolae Timofti believes that President-elect Igor Dodon captures public opinion more and more with statements that can generate return to depressing moral and spiritual condition, as well as anxiety in society, a press release by the presidential institution’s press service has reported.
Timofti delivered the following speech:
“There are vulnerable issues in the political sector that cannot be dealt firmly and unilaterally, and if someone does it, should assume the risk of consequences. One of defiant statements to the combatants of the Dniestre war, families who have lost fathers and sons in battles and the state authorities is referring to excuses that “Chisinau should ask Transnistria”.
What was the fault of Chisinau that on 2 March 1992 when Moldova received the status of UN member state, the separatist forces attacked the police posts of Chisinau on the east bank of the Dniestre?! During the four months of fighting at Cocieri, Cosnita, Tighina, much blood was spilled to defend national independence and territorial integrity.
I am firmly convinced that the president regardless of the political area that reaches the main position in state should categorically support evacuation of the Russian troops illegally staying in Transnistria and be more tempered in dealing with separatist leaders from Tiraspol, as well as the intentions to federate Moldova.
The views expressed by the president-elect after the 13 November elections have enough subtexts to compromise stability in the country and national unity.
It is difficult but not impossible to be president of all citizens, to take into account their wishes, and at the same time, not to compromise the legislative act and Constitution.
Community of ideas with progressive forces, civil society, intellectual elite of a nation must be the principle of governing of the president and not party dogmas which launched him into politics. To do politics for a party and doing politics on behalf of the citizens are different activities, and the latter that is imperious for a head of state shows political maturity and respect to Motherland”.
