Four employees of Moldovan interior ministry detained for influence peddling

Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/- Two policemen, a student and a former employee of the Police Academy “Stefan cel Mare” of the Interior Ministry were detained by officers of the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service of the ministry (SPIA) and anticorruption prosecutors on 21 December. They were suspected of involvement in a corruption scheme.
SPIA press officer Alexandru Boboc said “suspects, saying they have influence over the decision makers of more subdivisions of the Interior Ministry, including the Police Academy, demanded and received money from several persons in order to facilitate the employment of some of them in the General Inspectorate of Police, as well as the entry and promotion at the academy”.
The police simultaneously conducted 15 searches in Briceni and Falesti districts and Chisinau municipality. They identified computers, mobile phones and other items relevant to the cases in the cars, homes and offices of suspects.
The operation lasted six months, and the investigators initiated three criminal cases on influence peddling, passive corruption and active corruption. The four defendants were detained for 72 hours and other two suspects are investigated at large.
