Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/- The EU Delegation to Moldova today awarded 25 high schools participating in a contest “Best Project Idea”.
Winners received certificates of excellence and trophies, five lyceums got a computer and a laptop for the most original ideas described in the projects. Award winners are Straseni-based Mihai Eminescu lyceum, Calarasi-based Vasile Alecsandri lyceum, Constantin Stere lyceum from Soroca, Ion Pelivan lyceum from Razeni village, Magdacesti-based lyceum.
The Head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau Pirkka Tapiola said that the project was aimed at involving the young people in identifying solutions in order to solve problems in society.
“EU is based on the active young people willing to make a change in society, therefore we were set to implement these principles in Moldova. They represent our future, they must be involved in social projects to train their skills in modernizing society. I was pleasantly surprised to see that many young people were interested in the project which was even discussed on social networks,” Tapiola said.
For her part, Education Minister Corina Fusu said that the young people were those would continue the reforms initiated by authorities, and this implied a high level of training, which was carried out with the support of the EU and development partners.
The Best Project Idea contest started in the context of EU project “European Union Eastern Neighbors”, launched in June 2016, meant to create cooperation between young people aged between 15 and 25 years. The awarded projects will not be subject to further funding, as the contest’s purpose was to train them to assess the situation of community and school in which they study and to turn to good account the potential for using English.
