Moldova to get 50 million euros for railroad networks restoration

Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/ – Parliament ratified today the Financing Contract between Moldova and the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the construction and restoration of railroad infrastructure in Moldova.
The document provides a total funding allocation worth €50 million. Within the frame of the project it is planned to be procured 11 mainline diesel locomotives, which can be used both for passenger, as well as goods, transportation.
At the same time, with EIB’s support, it will be renovated the railroad infrastructure in Moldova. Under the contract, portions of which will be carried out restoration works will be determined on the basis of a feasibility study, and priority will be the main rail corridors in Moldova: Bender – Chisinau – Ungheni – Balti – Ocnita and Bender – Basarabeasca – Etulia – Giurgiulesti.
By means of the project, authorities wish to create an efficient rail transport system that meets the needs of citizens, but also facilitates trade on domestic and foreign markets.
The financing contract between Moldova and EIB for the construction and restoration of railway infrastructure and rolling stock acquisition was signed in September 2016, in Chisinau.
