Moldovan criminal ring arrested for thefts in especially large scale

Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/- Five members of an organised criminal group, aged between 27 and 35 years, residents of Comrat and Ceadir-Lunga districts, were sentenced to a total of 87 years in prison for theft in especially large scale.

According to the press service of Prosecutor’s General Office, in January-February 2016, the defendants have stolen three safes with money and gold items from two currency exchanges and pawn shop in Chisinau. The defendants were acting at night by damaging the door and managed to leave the scene with all the safes during 40 seconds. Damage caused to injured parties exceeds the amount of one and half million lei.

The suspects were detained on 10 February 2016, immediately after committing the third theft. Subsequently, they were arrested until sentencing.

The sentence can be appealed as provided by law.
