Moldovan employer to be obliged to ensure social protection of pregnant workers at work

Chisinau, 29 December /MOLDPRES/- The decision on minimum safety and health requirements at work for protection of pregnant workers who have recently given birth or are breastfeeding will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 30 December.
Under the document, employers will assess any risk to safety or health of female employees and possible adverse effects on pregnancy or lactation and will take measures needed to remove them. Thus, pregnant employees, those who have recently given birth or who are breastfeeding could not be obliged to perform activities that may be at specific risk of exposure to chemical agents, radiation, at the same time, being excluded the noxious work conditions, including night services, exposure to extreme temperature, mental or physical fatigue.
Employers will be obliged to offer pregnant women an extra training on occupational hazards to which they are exposed. In case of some unfavorable conditions for the work, the employer will order to temporarily change the conditions and working hours, place of employment and the exemption from fulfilling the obligations for the entire period necessary for protection, safety and health of workers of this category.
The above-mentioned decision will enter into force on 1 January 2017.
