Over three thousand policemen to ensure public order on winter holiday season in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 December /MOLDPRES/ – More than 3,000 policemen will ensure public order during the holiday season. The announcement was made today by the head of the National Patrol Inspectorate, Liviu Baziuc during a press conference.

According to him, the staff will include inspectors of patrol police and public order, as well as other structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which will act to prevent cases and events which could affect the peace and public order.

"The police will be present in places of entertainment with a large flow of people, in places where will take place religious events, at transport stops and train stations. At the same time, police will also check the putting into use of pyrotechnic articles and food products exposed to marketing without certificates of origin," said Liviu Baziuc.

The Head of Public Security General Directorate of the General Police Inspectorate, Marin Maxian, advised citizens not to go through dark places and not leave children unattended. "In an emergency, we urge people to call number 902 or to contact the nearest police station or sector whenever it detects tense situations, suspicious persons or objects that can affect public safety. At the same time, citizens are asked not to make false calls to the 902 number to hold the phone line busy and not give the opportunity to those who need help to call the police," said Marin Maxian.

Also, police recommend all drivers who intend to go on a journey to equip appropriate means of transport, not to drive after consuming alcohol and meet the guidelines of directing traffic policemen.

Similarly, the officials stated that, if necessary, the number of police employees will be increased. Last year, around 4,000 police officers ensured public order during the winter holiday season. Thus, from 01 – 08 January 2016, the order maintaining forces had been reported in 80 cases concerning offences and other information about violation of public order, conflicts in public places, violent behaviour and thefts etc.
