Chisinau, 31 December /MOLDPRES/ – Mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, took stock of the activities of the City Hall in 2016 and presented plans for next year.
"The year 2016 was a watershed year for Chisinau and Moldova. It was a difficult year for the mayor’s office because of several situations that were created in Chisinau. I mean the fire at the Central Market, the referendum was meant to be held crisis at S.A. "Apa Canal", budget vote just in July, corruption at City Hall departments and many other shortcomings. Despite those, we managed to record some results for the capital, and namely: the restoration of the waterfall in Valea Morilor (The Valley of Mills) park, assembly of 20 new trolleybuses, including five wireless, investments in health care, signing the agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) on financing the project of insulation of buildings, and other ongoing activities," said Chirtoaca.
At the same time, the mayor presented this year arrears. These include unresolved issues related to street trade, stray dogs, food in educational institutions, corruption, debt, including the bankruptcy of municipal companies and dispossession of the municipal land.
The mayor also said that for 2017 set a priority to propose to Parliament and Government to change the law on road traffic rules, to be raised illegally parked cars on city streets. "I plan as an objective to unlock traffic at least on main streets, and undisciplined drivers to be punished harshly because it can not be that because of a few people who do not respect the law, suffer all the inhabitants of Chisinau," said the mayor.
