National selection for Eurovision contest 2017 to take place at one semifinal in Moldova

Chisinau, 3 January /MOLDPRES/ – One semifinal, instead of two, will be held this year in the national selection for International Contest of Eurovision Song Contest 2017.
According to general producer of Moldova 1 television station, Leonid Melnic, the first stage will be a live audition on 21 January, which will be broadcasted on Moldova 2. There will be chosen 14 singers out of all the contestants who will participate in semifinal. At this stage, the jury will select the competitors without any public help.
In the semifinal, which will take place on 24 February, four interpreters who will accumulate the most points will be selected by jury and four will be chosen by viewers. These eight contestants will compete for the final right to represent Moldova at Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev.
Those who wish to take part in national selection of Eurovision 2017 can submit participation files until 18 January 2017. The files are received at Eurovision 2017 Collection Center on str. Hincesti 64, TV Moldova 1. Those who are interested to represent Moldova in Kiev can submit files by e-mail, too.
Contacted by the agency, sources from "Teleradio Moldova" stated that now, from 12 December when he announced the contest so far in the competition were scored just two candidates. Band Che-MD is the first to submit an application for participation in the national stage of Eurovision 2017.
The national final of the song contest will take place on 25 February 2017. The 62nd edition of the International Competition of Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Kiev on 9, 11 and 13 May, after Ukraine won the previous edition of the competition with song "1944", sung by Jamal.
Moldova has participated in Eurovision Song Contest since 2005. In that year, Moldova recorded the best result – "Zdob si Zdub" was placed on the sixth place. Last year, the representative of Moldova, Lidia Isac failed to qualify for the grand final.
