Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - The road traffic takes place with no difficulty in southern and central Moldova, the Transports and Roads Infrastructure Ministry (MTID) said today.

According to the MTID press service, 12 special vehicles and 29 workers got involved to clean the snow during the night. Road-men used 86 tons of anti-skid material. At the same time, the number of workers of the Roads’ State Administration has been increased, “in order to quickly intervene to clean the roads. Presently, the traffic takes place with no difficulty on all roads and there are no road segments on which the traffic is ceased,” a press release by the institution reads.

On the other hand, the information service of the Chisinau International Airport said that, because of the heavy snowfall, delays were announced in the take-offs and landings of planes flying to and from Russia.

For his part, the press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service (SPCSE), Liliana Puscasu, told MOLDPRES that the situation was monitored 24 hours and no demands for rescuers’ intervention had been recorded so far. “According to latest reports in the territory, the heaviest snowfalls take place in the country’s southern districts of Cahul, Cantemir, Vulcanesti and Causeni, in the centre – Chisinau, Straseni, Ialoveni, etc. while no precipitation has been registered in the northern region,” Puscasu said.

In the context, the Chisinau city hall, in a press release, said that the road traffic was taking place properly in the city and road-men work to clean both streets and pavements, as well as the yards of blocks of flats. At the same time, specialized municipal services urged drivers to avoid the sloping streets. The drivers are also urged not to park their vehicles on roadsides and in yards of blocks of flats, in order not to turn more difficult the access of special vehicles for cleaning the snow.

The National Patrol Inspectorate urges drivers to be vigilant in traffic, to adapt the speed to the weather conditions, in order to avoid accidents, and the vehicle must not start moving, if not properly equipped for the cold season.

Meteorologists issued an orange code of heavy snowfall, snow storm and snow drifts for central and southern Moldova for 6-7 January.
