Traffic ceased on road segment in southern Moldova

Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - The traffic has been ceased on the road Taraclia-Cahul, the segment between the settlements Ciumai and Burlaceni, because of the heavy snowfall and snow drifts.
Also, the Giurgiulesti International Goods and Passenger Port ceased working and the access of freight trains to Giurgiulesti was limited, the Transport and Roads Infrastructure Ministry has reported.
The ministry’s press service said that the most difficult traffic was on roads from the central and southern Moldova, where meteorologists issued an orange code of bad weather.
In the context, the Border Police informed, in a press release, that, because of the unfriendly weather conditions, the roads of exit from the Galati city of Romania to other cities had been blocked; therefore, the Romanian authorities urge the participants in the traffic to abstain from travels planned to Romania through the Giurgiulesti-Galati border checkpoint. Also, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine informed that the traffic had been closed on the highway Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi to Odessa. At the same time, the Moldovan authorities recommend that drivers avoid crossing the Ukrainian state border through the checkpoints Palanca-Udobnoe, Todora – Starokazacie, including Mirnoe – Tabaki and Ceadir Lunga-1.
Today, employees of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service were asked to intervene on roads in southern Moldova, in order to de-block more transports means stock in snow. Thus, rescuers de-blocked two lories on the road Slobozia – Vulcanesti, two busses and two touring cars nearby the Vulcanesti settlement, which got stuck in the snow on the road.
Also today, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) informed that a coach with Moldovan citizens, moving on the route Chisinau-Brasov, was blocked five km far from Ramnicu-Sarat, Romania, because of the bad weather conditions. MAEIE warns citizens set to go to Romania to be vigilant to the winter weather conditions and the danger of snow avalanches in mountainous areas.
Meteorologists issued an orange code of heavy snowfall, snow storm and snow drifts for central and southern Moldova for 6-7 January.
