Twenty settlements of southern Moldova disconnected from power supply

Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - Twenty settlements from southern Moldova have been disconnected from power supply because of the heavy snowfall and strong wind.
The Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service said that it was about villages from the districts of Cahul, Leova, Basarabeasca and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
At the same time, the Service also said that, in order not to allow the blocking of lorries and avoid risk situations, their movement had been ceased on the roads R 34 Cahul – Giurgiulesti, R 38 Balaban – Cahul, M3 Burlaceni – Vulcanesti and Slobozia Mare – Vulcanesti.
Because of the snow and blizzard, more transport means today got stuck in snow in southern Moldova. Thus, rescuers were asked to de-block two lorries on the Slobozia – Vulcanesti road, two buses and two touring cars nearby the Vulcanesti settlement, which remained stuck in snow on the road. Presently, the situation is monitored on the roads Giurgiulesti – Slobozia and Ciumai – Burlaceni. People are urged to call the emergency service at 901, in case of risk situations.
Meteorologists issued an orange code of heavy snowfall, snow storm and snow drifts for central and southern Moldova for 6-7 January. At the same time, the yellow code of sharp weather change is valid for 6-9 January.
