Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/ - More road segments on the highways M3 Chisinau – Vulcanesti, Ciumai-Burlaceni and Slobozia-Mare-Vulcanesti remain blocked because of snow.

According to the press service of the Transport and Roads Infrastructure Ministry (MTID), workers now intervene to clean the snow on the road Causeni-Stefan Voda between the settlements Olanesti and Tudora (border with Ukraine). Also, workers intervene on the highway R36 in the Ceadir-Lunga district, where the snow is drifted and cleaning is difficult.

During the night, 225 special vehicles and 373 workers intervened to clean the snow on roads from southern and central Moldova, using 1,079 tons of anti-skid material.

MTID urge all drivers facing problems in traffic because of the bad weather to call the phone number 022748961 24 hours.

At the same time, given the keeping of the unfriendly weather conditions, the Customs Service recommends that the participants in the cross-border traffic abstain from crossing the frontier through the customs checkpoints Palanca, Tudora, Saiti, Ceadir-Lunga 1, Ceadir-Lunga 2, Basarabeasca, Mirnii, Vulcanesti, Cismichioi. Drivers are not recommended to cross the border through the aforementioned checkpoints, because of snowed-up roads in the neighbour countries.

At the same time, because of the formation of ice bridges on the Dniester river, the customs checkpoints of the landing stage type, Soroca and Cosauti, have temporarily ceased working. The other border customs checkpoints work as normal, with no enhanced traffic recorded.

The State Hydrometeorological Service issued an orange code of heavy snowfall valid till 9 January, preponderantly for the central and southern Moldova.
