More road segments closed due to strong snowfall in Moldova

Chisinau, 9 January /MOLDPRES/- More road segments have been closed due to snowfalls and blizzards of last night.
According to the Transport and Road Infrastructure Ministry’s press service, the traffic is blocked on the roads: M3 Chisinau-Cimislia-Vulcanesti-Giurgiulesti, 155-165 km (Ciumai-Burlaceni); 197-211 km (Vulcanesti-Slobozia Mare); R37 Ceadir-Lunga-Comrat-Cantemir, 46-50 km and R35 Basarabeasca-Comrat, 13-14 km.
At the same time, due to snow, access roads to some settlements remained impassable, namely: in Causeni district, access road to Baccealia town; the road connecting the villages Ucrainca - Zviozdocica - Tocuz – Salcuta; In Ceadir-Lunga district, access road to Gaidari settlement, in Cantemir district the access road is closed to Vișniovca - Baimaclia, Gotești - Tartaul, Gotești - Doina – Kioselia and in Comrat district, traffic is difficult on Congaz-Ciietu road.
During the night, 217 special motor vehicles, 329 workers intervened in snow clearing, and 803.5 tons of antiskid material was sprinkled. Also, 35 special mechanisms have been contracted from private people and local entrepreneurs, working on snow removal of roads. Works are performed non-stop. The mentioned areas are monitored by representatives of the National Inspectorate of Patrol of the Interior Ministry and if needed, temporary restrictions are set up to the movement of heavy transport.
At the same time, the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service announced that over 110 people were rescued by firefighters from cars stuck in snow. Most interventions of rescuers occurred in Ungheni, Calarasi, Cimislia, Leova, Causeni, Taraclia districts. In all, four patients were transported by firefighters to hospitals in the country. Thus, 300 rescuers and firefighters with 60 special vehicles have acted to prevent and liquidate consequences of risk situations. Further people are asked to call 901 service if they find themselves in difficult circumstances.
The Border Police noted that the checkpoints - „Vulcanești”, „Ceadir-Lunga 1”, „Ceadir-Lunga 2”, „Cișmichioi”, „Giurgiulești-Reni” remain closed due to snowy routes on the territory of Ukraine, and to the Tudora checkpoint it is allowed to cross the state border only for passenger transport. The other checkpoints are operating as normal.
According to the State Hydrometeorological Service, the air temperature will stand at – 11 degrees during the day, and at night – 14 degrees, in the central country. In northern country the air temperature will not exceed – 13 degrees during the day and – 17 degrees at night. In the south, thermometers will show up to – 10 degrees during the day and to – 11 degrees at night.
