Nearly 100 educational institutions closed due to bad weather conditions

Chisinau, 9 January /MOLDPRES/- Nearly 100 educational institutions from Riscani, Glodeni and Edinet districts have been closed due to snowy roads and low temperatures, according to the Education Ministry.

Of overall closed schools, 41 are from Riscani district. Also, other 24 educational institutions from Glodeni district will not operate during one day, and 34 institutions from Edineti district will not work during two days.

Also, in Stefan Voda and Hincesti districts the activity has been stopped only at the primary stage for a day. Thus, in all, 7,227 pupils from 29 schools did not go to school today. In Cahul and Cantemir districts the activity has been stopped partially during two days in 15 institutions, of which 11 in Cantemir and 4 in Cahul.

At the same time, in 17 districts the educational institutions are operating as normal.

Deputy head of the Education Ministry’s pre-university education department Mariana Goras said that the two days would be recovered on 9 and 10 March. “In case that the schools were closed due to snowy roads, the institutions will start working after cleaning them. At the same time, there are schools closed due to low temperatures in the institutions. We will take every effort that the educational institutions’ activity should be resumed as soon as possible,” Goras said.

Meteorologists forecast that the air temperature will reach – 11 degrees during the day, and at night – 14 degrees in the central country. In the northern country, the air temperature will not exceed – 13 degrees during the day and – 17 degrees at night. In the south, thermometers will show up to – 10 degrees during the day and to – 11 degrees at night. At the same time, snowfall is expected the following days.
