Heavy snow does not affect road traffic on national highways

Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/- Heavy snow did not disturb car traffic, so that there is no difficulty to drive on national roads, the Transport and Road Infrastructure Ministry (MTID) announced today.
According to the MTID’s press service, 56 special machines and 215 workers were involved in clearing the roads. In all, 336 tons of skid material was used. Heavy snow is in the central and southern Moldova, so in the areas, most teams will be deployed at roads snow removal.
At the same time, the National Patrol Inspectorate said that the patrol teams were accompanying about 80 special vehicles spreading solid skid material on the roads. Since last night, over 150 teams and more than 300 inspectors were working to ease road traffic and help drivers in need.
Moreover, the Border Police today announced that due to the snowy roads, the movement had been restricted through customs checkpoints: Giurgiulești - Reni, Cișmichioi, Vulcănești, Mirnoe, Cairaclia, Săiți și Tudora.
Traffic restrictions were set at the checkpoints: Ceadir-Lunga 1, Ceadir-Lunga 2 and Basarabeasca.
Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcanu said “so far, rescuers have not been asked to intervene in unblocking cars, at the same time, they are under alert and are ready to act to help citizens”.
Meteorologists issued yellow code of heavy snowfall in southern, central and some settlements in the north. Thus, the snow layer will be up to 10 cm. Drifts will be formed in some areas.
In this context, the rescuers warn people to avoid travelling. Drivers are asked to keep in car trunk a shovel and chains, and the vehicle to be equipped with winter tires. In case of risk situations, people may call 901 service for help.
