Chisinau, 12 January /MOLDPRES/ - Eight cities from Moldova will get the status of municipality, under a legislative amendment due to be published in the 13 January issue of the Official Journal of Moldova.
According to the document, it is about the cities of Cahul, Hincesti, Ungheni, Orhei, Soroca, Edinet, Ceadir-Lunga and Straseni.
The head of the parliament’s commission for public administration, regional development, environment and climate changes, Violeta Ivanov, has told MOLDPRES that the providing of the status of municipality to these cities sees that 20 per cent of the taxes collected are to remain in the settlement’s budget.
The document’s authors said that giving the status of municipality would contribute to creating needed conditions for boosting the social and economic development of these cities, developing the influence zone on the whole and will mitigate the present disparities of territorial development.
The law will enter into force 90 days after its publication in the Official Journal.
Presently, five Moldovan settlements have status of municipality: Chisinau, Balti, Tiraspol, Bender and Comrat.
