Moldova, United Kingdom mark 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations

Chisinau, 17 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldovan Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson have exchanged congratulatory messages on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Moldovan-British diplomatic relations on 17 January 2017, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.    

Minister Andrei Galbur said that the 25 years of cooperation between both states had witnessed an outstanding development, as concrete results were recorded in diverse sectors on this period. The official highlighted the importance of the assistance on behalf of the United Kingdom, provided to Moldova in its efforts to strengthen the democratic institutions and develop a friendly environment for a sustainable and fairer economic growth. 

Secretary of State Boris Johnson welcomed the Moldovan government’s wish to implement the ambitious programme of economic and democratic reforms. He stressed the opportunity that the Great Britain provides needed support to this end, as well as to identify a lasting solution to the Transnistrian conflict.  

At the same time, on the occasion of the anniversary, on 17 January, Deputy Foreign Minister Lilian Darii and Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Moldova Lucy Rebecca Joyce attended an official launch of a postage stamp, stamp with special obliteration and an envelope issued in this occasion. The event took place at the headquarters of Posta Moldovei (Moldova’s Post).   

Moldova established diplomatic ties with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 17 January 1992.
