More Moldovan kindergartens to benefit from solar collectors

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/- The Council of Energy and Biomass Project, led by Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic, approved an action plan of the project for 2017. The document stipulates installation of 49 new biomass heating systems in 2017, including 20 solar collectors from the European funds of the project.

According to the Economics Ministry’s press service, 27 kindergartens benefitting from the first stage of project will be provided with installations of hot water from solar energy, which will operate with the thermal system on biomass, and other 34 schools and kindergartens, thermal plants of which burn straw bales, will be additionally equipped with tractors of transporting and loading bales in the boiler.

A system for remotely monitoring the operation of thermal power plants of biomass will be launched in 2017. At the same time, the Unique Training Centre of Operators of biomass heating systems will start training courses in 2017. Feasibility studies for two districts selected to pilot projects on biofuel production from plant waste (Rezina and Cimislia) will be carried out, and depending on their results, first municipal projects will be launched to deal with plant waste for energy purposes.

Calmic remarked the outcomes got within the project and pointed out that it represented a successful history for Moldova and a reality that must be supported and developed.

2017 is the last year of the Energy and Biomass Project’s activity. Launched in 2011, the project has managed to connect over 190 schools, kindergartens, community centres, hospitals to biomass heating systems, thus providing over 140,000 people access to secure energy, produced in Moldova.

The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme.
