Moldovan speaker congratulates new European Parliament president

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ – Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu congratulated today Antonio Tajani, on his election as President of the European Parliament, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The head of the Parliament expressed confidence that the European Parliament would continue to support the prospect of a European perspectives of Moldova. According to the Speaker, the European Union is a strategic partner of Moldova and the government will promote democratic reforms with the same insistence. "The Parliament commitments in Chisinau towards European Union are firm and unchanged, and the government will continue its efforts to ensure visible progress in reforms," said Andrian Candu.
Antonio Tajani former European Commissioner for Industry, was elected by 351 votes as President of the European Parliament. Tajani succeeds the German Social Democrat Martin Schulz, who will return to domestic politics of Germany.
Antonio Tajani was elected four times as a Member of the European Parliament and served two terms as the European Commissioner for Transport and Industry.
