Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/- One-off childbirth allowance will be set equal to the monetary value of the minimum basket of goods necessary to birth, according to a legislative amendment due to be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 20 January.
Under the document, the amount of childbirth allowance will be approved annually by the government, based on data by the Legal and Political Research Institute of the Academy of Sciences, which set 5,300 lei for this year. At the same time, uninsured persons will be given childcare allowance during two years, compared to 1.5 years now.
A monthly rearing allowance until three years of twins or more children born will be set up too. It will represent 50 per cent of the monthly allowance set for the uninsured people and will be established for each child additionally.
Also, monthly allowance for child care under tutorship/curatorship, for children deprived of parental care, as well as for adopted children will be paid.
Increase in one-off childbirth allowance fits into the state demographic policy, one of the main goals of which is the increase in birth rate. According to data by the Health Ministry, the number of live births was reduced from 48,012 in 2009 to 38,592 in 2015.
The legislative amendment entered into force on 1 January 2017.
