Over 51 million lei collected by 70 per cent reduction of automotive customs clearance in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/ – More than 51 million lei have been collected on clearance of automobiles brought into Moldova until 01 November 2016 which benefited 70 per cent reduction at registration in Moldova.
The Customs Service said that in this period were cleared over 2,300 auto vehicles. The most cars were imported from Lithuania, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, Italy and Poland.
According to legislative changes from 01 January to 01 April 2017, Moldovans who own cars registered abroad and were introduced in the Republic of Moldova until 01 November 2016 can register their vehicles with excise duty of 30 per cent of the quota allocated for 2016.
Interviewed by the Agency, the Customs Service spokesperson, Cristina Rau, said that after that period, citizens will pay 100 per cent of the quota allocated for 2016. "Also, starting 01 April 2017, it will be prohibited on public roads for motor vehicles registration number of administrative units from Transnistria and Bender municipality headed by persons with Moldovan driving license," said Cristina Rau.
Moreover, the maximum period of stay in Moldova of transport units with foreign license plates will be 180 days within 12 consecutive months. Another amendment stipulates that foreigners who hold driving license from the country of permanent records of vehicles, can be located in Moldova more than 180 days. In this case, they will pay vignette of 180 euros for each following 180 days of stay in Moldova.
The bill aims to ensure tax equity between people who have vehicles registered in Moldova and possessing unregistered cars. Similarly, changes goal to increase traffic safety and stimulate long – term revenues to state budget.
