Chinese new year marked at National library in Moldova

Chisinau, 26 January /MOLDPRES/ – An event dedicated to Chinese New Year, also called the feast of spring, was held today at the National Library for Children "Ion Creanga".
Yinghong Zhang attended the event, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of China in Moldova, Ms Zhang Yanjun, secretary of the Embassy, other diplomats, teachers, librarians, students and pupils.
In his speech, Ambassador Zhang Yinghong spoke about the significance of that holiday in the Land of the Great Dragon and the year – Year of the Rooster Fire, noting that that being usually a year of prosperity and abundance. He noted that it became a tradition for Chinese New Year to be celebrated at the National Library for Children "Ion Creanga". Children are the ones who are the hope and future.
Also, Ambassador Zhang Yinghong noted that the days we celebrated 25 years of diplomatic relations between China and Moldova, which in recent years, deepened in political, economic and cultural relations. However, in January – November 2016, the volume of export of Moldovan goods to China amounted to $13.5 million, registering an increase of 80 per cent over 2015. At the same time, he stressed the diplomat, cultural cooperation playing an important role in strengthening the friendship of the peoples of Moldova and China.
At her turn, vice director of the National Library for Children "Ion Creanga" Eugenia Bejan, stressed that Chinese New Year had been celebrated in institution since 2006. "We are glad that every year, at the International Exhibition for Children, the Chinese Embassy comes with a donation of books for our library. Our goal is to promote Chinese language and culture and strengthen cultural relations between the two countries," said Eugenia Bejan.
During the event, there were interpreted songs in Chinese and children participated in quizzes and interactive games devoted to China. The holiday atmosphere was completed by the exhibition "A book means pure gold" from the library donations offered by the Chinese Embassy and the Institute "Confucius", a photo exhibition "China image" and an exhibition of Chinese handicrafts and souvenirs.
The New Year's Day in China dates back four thousand years. From 28 January 2017 until 15 February 2018, it is the Year of the Fire Rooster in the Chinese zodiac – a strong year where everyone will advance and start new things.
