Moldovan meteorologists issue yellow code of sharp weather change

Chisinau, 06 February /MOLDPRES/ – The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) issued today the yellow code of sudden weather change throughout Moldova, valid till 10 February in connection with the movement of a southern cyclone near the territory of the country.

According to SHS, within this period the air temperatures will drop considerably, abundant precipitation will fall as sleet or snow, while glazed frost and snowdrifts will form on roads.

As such, on 07 – 08 February evening and night, will fall precipitations isolated strong (07 – 15 l/m2) in the form of rain and sleet, turning gradually into snow. There is also expected intensification of wind from the east, gusting up to 15 – 20 m/s. Between 09 and 10 February, the average daily air temperature will decrease by 10 – 15 degrees Celsius.

Interviewed by the agency, the weather centre representative of SHS, Popusoi Cristina said that "at this time there will be registered an anomaly temperature, which rarely happens in our country. Due to glazed frost, there is a risk of forming the icy roads, which will hinder traffic, damages of power lines and breaking of tree branches."  

According to SHS, there are expected minimum temperatures of up to 16 degrees Celsius below zero and maximum of up to 03 degrees Celsius above zero for the next few days.
