Over one hundred rescuers intervened to liquidate consequences of bad weather conditions

Chisinau, 9 February /MOLDPRES/- Over one hundred rescuers and firefighters intervened in 21 risk situations during last 24 hours in winter conditions.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service (SPCSE), following bad weather conditions, more cars have skidded off routes, requiring the intervention of rescuers. “Thus, the SPCSE employees intervened to tow two cars located in Valea Verde and kindergarten in Causeni district. Also, rescuers provided aid to a driver in Cimislia city, going away from the road. Another truck driver was helped to overcome a slippery route segment in Mereseni village, Hincesti district,” a press release by SPCSE reads.
The head of the State Road Administration’s operative service, Sergiu Capatina, noted that over 40,000 tons of antiskid material had been used so far out of the 80,000 tons reserved for this year.
“We still have 37,000 tons of antiskid material and we are sure we will cope with exceptional circumstances further. Also, we have technical salt to intervene on the country’s roads. Last night works of patrolling and clearing snow were performed on the national and local roads. In this regard, 274 special vehicles and 336 road workers were involved in, and 1,458 tons of antiskid material used”, Capatina said.
For her part, Customs Service spokeswoman Cristina Rau said that currently, due to ice bridges formation across the Dniestre river, “wharf customs posts Soroca, Cosauti and Molovata ceased their activity, and all other customs checkpoints are working as ordinary”.
In the context, press officer of the National Patrol Inspectorate Alina Bundez said that in last 24 hours, “88 road accidents occurred in the country that killed two persons and injured 21. In Chisinau, 78 accidents were recorded, which resulted in one person died and six were injured”.
The State Hydrometeorological Service announced frosty weather on 9-10 February and daily air temperature will drop to -12 degrees.
