Moldovan PM meets Ukrainian president

Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko within his official visit to Kiev, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

PM Pavel Filip highlighted the latest boosting of the bilateral dialogue, which had switched to a new stage of development. Filip said this meeting was a good occasion to set new prospects for developing the cooperation between the two countries in diverse sectors, by continuing the earlier dialogue. “We are ready to closely cooperate in continuation, in order to easier and more quickly move towards European integration, which is the common option of our countries and nations,” the Moldovan prime minister said.  

At the same time, Petro Poroshenko said the Kiev authorities were opened for a constructive dialogue, due to have at its basis the promotion of the interests of the two states’ citizens. “The diplomatic relations are at the high level, we are sincere, confident and are grateful for Moldova for the support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Ukrainian president said.    

The officials also discussed Ukraine’s participation in the process of negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict settlement. Referring to this topic, PM Pavel Filip noted that the regional solidarity in such issues was very important, and the Chisinau authorities relied on Ukraine’s support in the promotion of fair discussions. ”It is important that Ukraine and Moldova be partners in the promotion of the international law norms and mutually support in the promotion of the two states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Pavel Filip also said.   

Also, Petro Poroshenko said Ukraine backed Moldova’s efforts to settle the Transnistrian conflict by peaceful means and in the interest of the citizens from the two banks of Dniester. Pavel Filip said that Moldova supported the settlement of the Donbas and Crimea crisis by political and diplomatic means. He reconfirmed the Moldovan government’s willingness to further provide assistance for the organization of leisure and rehabilitation of children who suffered in the wake of the armed conflict in Ukraine’s eastern region.

The sides also exchanged opinions on boosting the border cooperation, including by carrying out joint control at the border checkpoints Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk, Palanca-Mayaki-Udobnoe and Giurgiulesti-Reni, as well as through the opening of the Unguri-Bronita bridge for the movement of touring cars and passenger transport. In the context, President Poroshenko said that “the Moldovan-Ukrainian border is a frontier of friendship, transparency and efficiency. We build a common bridge, as we have mutual trust.”    

At the same meeting, PM Pavel Filip and President Petro Poroshenko also discussed the commercial, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, completing the process of state border demarcation and regulating the rights of ownership, as well as the importance of the Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation on the international stage, including within the United Nations, Council of Europe and OSCE.
