Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - The customs checkpoints Costesti and Otaci are to be extended and modernized, in order to smooth the flow of transports units at the border. To this end, the director-general of the Customs Service, Vitalie Vrabie, instructed to start designing works in late last week.
The decision on extending the Costesti customs checkpoint was prompted by the overcrowding of the Sculeni customs checkpoint. This was one of the solutions proposed jointly with the customs authority from Romania, in order to develop the infrastructure on both sides of the border, so that needed conditions be created for the international goods transport.
At the same time, as for the Otaci customs checkpoint (border with Ukraine), Vitalie Vrabie instructed to identify a plot of land for creating a zone of customs control of lories nearby the checkpoint, that will shorten the duration of standing of transport units at the checkpoint.
According to data by the Customs Service, about 770 transport units daily cross the Otaci customs checkpoint and 370 transports unit – the Costesti customs checkpoint.
