Moldovan PM meets with prime vice president of EBRD

Chisinau, 14 February /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip held a meeting with First Vice-President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Philip Bennett. He thanked EBRD representatives for the constant support given to Moldova to implement projects in infrastructure, water supply and road rehabilitation, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

Pavel Filip said that government wants to attract more investment as Moldova's economy to run social projects and informed about actions taken by the government to improve the business environment, judicial reform, the banking sector and fighting corruption.

The prime minister was referred to the Executive's priority reform agenda for the next period, highlighting the central public administration reform and local authorities. "The successful implementation of reforms can not take place without a professional and competent government," said the prime minister. Pavel Filip said that the reorganization of public administration would contribute to more efficient use of financial resources allocated by foreign partners.

At his turn, first Vice-President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Philip Bennett, congratulated the Government for the progress and encouraged the authorities to continue reforms and especially to ensure their successful implementation. The official expressed EBRD's willingness to support the implementation of projects both in the public and in private sectors.

The sides also exchanged views on priority directions of cooperation between government and EBRD for the next Country Strategy for 2017 – 2020. The document will be drawn up in accordance with strategic development priorities of the Republic of Moldova, stated in the National Development Strategy "Moldova 2020".

Moldova became a EBRD member on 05 May 1992, and on 03 September 1996, in Chisinau, it was opened EBRD Permanent Representation Office. Since the beginning of its operations in Moldova, EBRD has financed 111 projects worth over one billion euros. The actual portfolio of EBRD consists of 445 million euros.
