Moldovan premier says process of implementing programme with IMF to be treated with greatest attention, responsibility

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with a team of experts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on an evaluation mission in Moldova on 14-28 February, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
In the beginning of the meeting, the new head of the IMF mission, Ben Kelmanson, was introduced to the PM. Kelmanson followed in this position Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar, starting from the last January.
The prime minister thanked the former head of the mission, Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar, for the professionalism and dedication proved during the negotiations with IMF in 2016 and expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support provided to government in the singing of the Memorandum with IMF.
At the same time, Pavel Filip voiced confidence that the close cooperation between the cabinet and the IMF would be maintained also on the next period, when the mission will be led by Ben Kelmanson.
The PM said the IMF mission would have possibility to make an assessment and analysis of the latest developments in the economy and the way the government is implementing the programme agreed upon with IMF. “The process of implementing the Programme with IMF will be treated with the greatest attention and responsibility and will be carried out in conditions of maximum transparency and efficiency,” Pavel Filip stressed.
In the context, the prime minister referred to the importance of the Agreement with IMF, which means not only financing, but also observance of conditions, which help the government implement the reforms.
Pavel Filip said that, while in 2016, the cabinet had been in the situation to manage a crisis, then the 2017-2018 years are to become years of development and edification. To this end, an agenda of reforms was worked out, brought for discussion at a joint meeting government-parliament, so that the two institutions coordinate their actions as well as possible for the successful implementation of reforms.
The PM expressed the government’s firm determination and openness to strengthen the dialogue with the IMF experts’ team, ensuring a dynamic character of the cooperation between IMF and Moldova.
For her part, Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar appreciated the openness and professionalism of the governmental team, stressing that both sides had taken a huge effort for the approval of the Programme with IMF and now the good work of the programme is to be ensured.
In the context, Ben Kelmanson informed that, during the next two weeks, he would make an assessment of the macroeconomic situation in Moldova and a revision on the policies’ dimension.
It is worth mentioning that, on 7 November 2016, the government and the IMF signed a cooperation agreement, under which Moldova received a credit line worth about 176 million dollars, of which 35 million dollars has been already allocated.
