Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/- The new limits of setting the minimum and advanced degree of alcoholic intoxication will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 24 February.

According to the amendments made to the Regulation on alcohol testing and medical examination for confirmation of the intoxication, the threshold was cut in half.

So far, drivers caught drunk were fined for minimum degree of intoxication if it was an alcohol concentration of up to 1.0 grams per liter in blood and 0.5 mg/l in exhaled air.

Following the amendments, for the minimum degree of drunkenness it was set alcohol content from 0.3 grams to 0.5 grams per liter in blood or from 0.15 mg/l to 0.3 mg/l in exhaled air.

If alcohol concentration is exceeding 0.5 g/l in blood or 0.3 mg/l in exhaled air, it will be considered a drunken degree.

According to informative note of the draft, the threshold is lowered in order to “optimize eradicating alcohol and adopting a healthy lifestyle”.

Statistics data show that in nine months of 2016, 115 road accidents occurred due to alcohol, which killed about 30 people and 145 injured.
