Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/- New policies for road safety will be promoted by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu. He today discussed an action plan for this year with Director of “Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport” Emma MacLennan, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Candu accepted the offer to be ambassador of road safety and proposed to promote several projects that would help raise awareness of the consequences of speeding and pedestrian safety.
The sides have agreed several actions that parliament and Candu along with international experts would promote the next period. They discussed security in the area of schools, where it is required speed bumps and road signs. Also, they approached a project to support free distribution of car seats for newborns. Another project due to be implemented is related to the distribution of reflectors that would protect pedestrians at night, which is regulated by law, but still very little respected in Moldova.
The officials decided to organize in May an awareness campaign on road safety, and to prepare a set of amendments to the existing legislation to reduce the number of accidents in the country.
Today’s meeting was preceded by a discussion between the speaker and Emma MacLennan during his working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in February 2017.
