Premier attends commemoration of Moldovans dead for defending country's independence, territorial integrity

Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today attended a ceremony of commemorating the Moldovans dead in combat actions for the defence of Moldova’s independence and territorial integrity (1992), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

In the beginning of the event, the prime minister showed solidarity with the veterans and thanked them for the sacrifice proved. “You represent a moral benchmark and Moldova needs moral benchmarks very much. Our state’s independence is dropped with your blood and everybody’s duty is to make come true the dream for which you fought and which unites us – to edify a prosperous and democratic Moldova,” Pavel Filip said.   

At the same time, the PM gave assurances that the veterans would further benefit from support on behalf of the state. Filip also said that he was personally monitoring the action plan, Memory, Honour, Respect, approved in April 2016, in order to improve the social protection of veterans.  

Among the actions carried out so far, there are the increase in the number of invalids and veterans benefiting from medical services of rehabilitation, establishing nominal allowances for the relatives of the persons awarded posthumously, doubling the allocations for the people with special merits for the state. At the same time, the participants in the war of Transnistria got the right to privatize their flats free of charge.      

In the context, Pavel Filip emphasized the importance of the veterans’ public organizations, which can come with value added to the actions promoted by the government. “I speak out for strengthening the dialogue with the veterans. This gives me possibility to directly discuss the government’s action programme, the difficulties you are facing, as well as the most opportune ways of removing them. Being consolidated, we can do the European future of our country,” the PM added.
