Moldovan foreign minister conveys congratulatory message to Finnish counterpart

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/- On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Finland, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Andrei Galbur and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Timo Soini, have exchanged congratulatory messages, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's information and media relations service has reported.

In his message addressed to his Finnish counterpart, Minister Andrei Galbur noted the ascending character of the bilateral relations over the past 25 years, expressing his appreciation for Finland’s constant support offered to Moldova's efforts of modernization and alignment with European standards. The official also noted that this anniversary provides an opportunity for a review of the achievements marking the bilateral relations, as well as for a renewed commitment to fully capitalize upon the existing potential of cooperation, based on the shared European values and the implementation of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union (EU).

On his side, the Finnish Foreign Minister, Timo Soini, highlighted the excellent relations between the two countries, noting the potential of their development both at the political and economic level. Mr. Soini confirmed Finland's continued support for the political association and economic integration of the Republic of Moldova into the EU. Minister Soini welcomed the progress made by our country in implementing internal reforms, expressing his country’s availability to offer know-how and exchange of best practices in areas of mutual interest, such as strengthening the rule of law and fighting corruption.

On the occasion of the anniversary, the Presidents and Prime ministers of the two countries have also exchanged congratulatory messages.

The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Finland were established on February 26, 1992.
