Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/- The heroes of the 1992 armed conflict were commemorated today. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu laid flowers at “Grieving Mother” monument of Eternity memorial complex. Attending the event were also Prime Minister Pavel Filip and President Igor Dodon, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
In his message, Candu addressed to parents who have lost children in the war 25 years ago. He said “only thanks to the sacrifice made in 1992, we have power to continue the struggle for the country’s reunification”.
“We sat down at a table of talks with those of Tiraspol, because we will not allow to repeat the four months of bloody battles. We will learn to live again along with those of the left bank of the Dniestre. We will give a status to that part of our country which is called Transnistria. We will work for all Moldovan citizens to live in peace, security and home from Cahul to Camenca, from Briceni to Slobozia. We have a country too small to share it, but sufficiently large to be house for all”, he said.
On this day, 25 years ago, the armed conflict in Transnistria began, which lasted four months. Agreement on cease-fire was signed on 21 July 1992, subsequently political negotiations started as regards the Transnistrian conflict settlement. Last year, the parliament set up parliamentary platform for consultation and parliamentary control for implementation of policy of reintegration of Moldova in order to provide political and legislative support to negotiators.
