Moldovan civil servants trained in accordance with European standards

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - More civil servants have been trained according to the European Union’s standards within the Twinning Project, Support to the Civil Service Modernization in the Republic of Moldova in line with EU best practices, which closed in Chisinau today.
At the conference on closing the project, Government Secretary General Lilia Palii said that the project’s goal was to strengthen the institutional and functional capacities of the central and local public authorities from Moldova. “The public administration reform represents a priority of the Moldovan government, which stays at the basis of the implementation of the commitments assumed within the Association Agreement. The reform’s objective is to create a modern and professional public administration, aimed at providing qualitative services to the citizens. Thus, this project had a major role in consolidating the public institutions, the work of civil servants from the public administration, reforming the system of motivation and the training of specialists,” Palii said.
For his part, the deputy secretary general of the government, Roman Cazan, said that, among the project’s results, there were “strengthening the civil servants’ capacities according to EU standards, elaboration of annual plans on continuous professional development of staff, training state secretaries, certification of more than 30 civil servants as instructors in the field of human resources’ management sector, as well as providing of 75 certificates of a long-term training programme,” Cazan noted.
Attending the event, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said that the process of public service’s modernization was necessary also in the context of implementing Moldova’s European agenda. “The European Union will continue providing Moldova with needed support and experience to reform the public administration, in order to provide the citizens with modern and quality services,” Pirkka Tapiola added.
The Twinning Project, Support to the Civil Service Modernization in the Republic of Moldova in line with EU best practices, had a budget of 1.2 million euros, provided by EU. The project was carried out in partnership with the Lithuanian government in the last two years.
