Political representatives in process of talks on Transnistrian settlement meet in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - A meeting of the political representatives in the process of negotiations for the Transnistrian settlement on behalf of Chisinau and Tiraspol, Gheorghe Balan and Vitaly Ignatyev, respectively, took place in Chisinau today. The event was held at the headquarters of the OSCE Mission in Moldova, in the presence of representatives of the participants in the five-plus-two talks, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
The participants in the meeting reviewed the recent developments in the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue and within the present dialogue platforms; the main problems on the agenda, which are to be settled as a priority, were pointed out.
The sides set forth their positions on pressing subjects, such as ensuring the free access of farmers from the eastern Dubasari district to their farmlands, creation of needed conditions for a good work of the Latin-script schools from the Transnistrian region, ensuring the free movement of the residents and transport means, unlocking the activity of the sectoral working groups on fighting criminality and emergency situations, civil status acts and documentation of the population, for economy, as well as prospects for the setting up of new sectoral working groups – for culture and promotion of the historical heritage, for phyto-sanitary and veterinary issues.
A subject tackled at the meeting was the introduction of joint control at the checkpoint of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border Pervomaysk-Kuchurgan, on the central Transnistrian segment.
Referring to this subject, the political representative on behalf of Chisinau, Gheorghe Balan, said that the implementation of joint control at the Moldovan--Ukrainian state border deals strictly with the bilateral relations between Moldova and Ukraine and the measure taken is aimed at modernizing and simplifying the control of the cross-border flows of goods and people, as well as at fighting the contraband, trafficking of persons and other negative elements present at the border.
Tiraspol’s representatives were urged to give up politicizing the issues brought for discussion and focus on identifying solutions friendly to the interests of the residents from both banks of Dniester.
