Moldovan cabinet approves action plan on promoting Internet safety for children, teenagers

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved an action plan on the promotion of the Internet safety for children and teenagers for 2017-2020. The document approaches the online risks children and teenagers are exposed to and sees a string of actions to combat them, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Thus, the plan’s general goals are to reduce the illegal content in the Internet, promote a safer digital environment by the cooperation of all the sides involved, informing the people who are in touch with children about the risks of the online environment, including the elaboration statistics and researches on the online safety.
Among the most important actions, due to be carried out, there are: creation of national contact points for reporting the illegal content in the online environment, opening of centres for informing and counseling about the Internet safety, developing a national legal and cooperation framework for counteracting the production and distribution of the illicit content, etc.
In the context, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that the plan’s approval was just one of the measures undertaken by the government to ensure the Internet safety. “In continuation, we must carry out all the other ones, which are ensure the protection not only of children, but also of all those who are on the online environment,” the prime minister said.
About 2.16 million lei is needed to carry out all actions provided for in the plan, with the spending to be covered by resources of the development partners.
The action plan was worked out in the context of implementation of the provisions of the strategy of child’s protection for 2014-2020 and the government’s action programme for 2016-2018, in order to coordinate and stimulate efforts of all sides interested in enhancing the level of Internet safety.
