Chisinau, 16 March /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip and UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva chaired a meeting of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development today. A report on meeting the goals of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 was presented at the event, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The premier said that the new sustainable reform agenda required a complex and inter-sectoral approach, as well as joint efforts from authorities, civil society, private sector and academic environment. “Global development agenda can become successful in Moldova, only if we correctly set the goals correlating with the reform agenda and expectations of society”, Filip said.

At the same time, the premier announced the launch of evaluation of Strategy Moldova 2020. “It is important to analyze the results achieved in the implementation of this strategy and to adjust emphasis nationwide, taking into account the sustainable development goals internationally agreed. Thus, we are going to draw up a national policy document with priority actions till 2030”, he said.

In the context, Filip highlighted the importance of a clear vision in elaborating all strategies. “We must have fewer strategies, but grounded in realities of our country, as once implemented, their impact should be felt”, he said.

Dafina Gercheva noted that implementation of sustainable development goals would contribute to building a modern state, which promoted values and principles of the EU and UN. “The new policy framework will further back development assistance, local and foreign investments to meet the needs and expectations of citizens”,    Gercheva said.

In 2015, Moldova, like other UN member states, was committed to implement the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 by adopting the Declaration of Summit on Sustainable Development, held in New York. The agenda offers a new approach of development, focusing on promoting human rights in all aspects.
