Chisinau hosts Francophone Film Festival, 16th edition

Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/- Fifteen French, Belgian, Canadian films will be screened during the 16th issue of Francophone Film Festival, which takes place on 19-26 March in Chisinau and Tiraspol on the occasion of International Francophonie Day.

The event is organized by the French Alliance in Moldova and French Embassy in Chisinau.

Deputy Head of the French Alliance Adrian Cibotaru said that this edition of festival was dedicated to Jacques-Yves Cousteau, navy officer, scientist, a great explorer of seas and oceans, who founded the film and television of science. His biography is presented in “Odyssey” by Jérôme Salle.

Commander Cousteau was constantly inspired by his desire to broaden knowledge and transmit them to the general public for one purpose: to draw attention to ecological disaster caused by human negligence and overexploitation of natural resources.

Adrian Cibotaru also said that most films were recent – in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and only one – “Crazy Stranger” („Gadjo Dilo”) by Tony Gatlif is 1997, the year in which Moldova joined the Francophonie.

The movies are subtitled in Romanian and Russian languages. Screenings will take place at the Odeon Cultural Centre in Chisinau and on 24 March – at the cinema in Tiraspol.
